History

It all started when the media and entertainment industry began to “retool” by moving away from traditional
analog media, such as tape, and began to utilize more “the new power” of IT supported workflows.
Soon, it was apparent that managing file based media was fundamentally different than standard IT - with a
new set of unique requirements. Problems with performance and data (or file) handling occurred.
The management of data placement on disk combined with their basic mechanical operation has become
critically important to achieving overall workflow efficiency.

Bright’s team began in 1999 to identify and tackle the challenges of file handling in media - and were the
first to actually address the core issues. It was in the mid-1990s when our core team began the development
of the first shared file system.

Over the past 12 years Bright has earned a reputation as an innovative, collaborative, problem solving,
